A master class by Vladimir Lyapchev
Vladimir Lyapchev has been engaged in topiary art for twenty years. He is perhaps the first in modern Russia to become a professional in this field.
Over the years of practice, he mastered all the techniques, styles, methods of formation, artistic cutting and pruning of tree crops. Still, as an exceptionally creative person, he does not stop there, but creates his own technologies and has his own unique style. He is being imitated, his forms go to the people and have many admirers.
His motto is "I create extraordinary trees from ordinary ones." Vladimir Lyapchev believes and proves in practice that masterpieces of Russian topiary art may be created from forest-forming species, all familiar Russian trees and bushes. Vladimir Leonidovich put a lot of effort into its popularization in Russian private gardens.
Over the years, he has given 60 training master classes in dozens of cities of the Russian Federation and the CIS countries. Vladimir Lyapchev lives in Moscow, and has customers in the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Tatarstan, Lipetsk, Tambov, Samara, Yaroslavl and other regions of Central Russia.

“My credo as a master is to create new forms that require minimum effort in maintaining. I always willingly train gardeners or plant owners in the aftercare of trimmed forms.
In topiary, I am looking for new approaches and new forms. I believe that we should work in collaboration with nature and the best option is when the hand of the master is not visible in the garden, but the view has harmony in it. Therefore, I like bionic forms more, they are in tune with nature.
In my opinion, a beautiful plant should be a healthy one, to begin with. Therefore, when creating my own objects, I pay great attention to sanitary pruning.
Using trimming and pruning techniques, I transform gardens beyond recognition. The most familiar plants of the Central Russia may form an image of a tropical paradise, exotic jungle, and distant mountain landscapes. A new face to old gardens or certain items is one of the areas of interest to me and an exciting creative task.”
